Sara Codd, Owner

I'm Sara and I am the owner here at Live Better Health & Fitness! I grew up playing sports and being active, which ultimately led me to complete my Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. In my last year of University I applied to medical school, thinking that I wanted to be a doctor and change the "diagnose and prescribe" method of medicine. During that time I started working as a personal trainer and realized my ability to reach people before they get into the medical system. After years of training in large, box gyms, I wanted to create a space where clients could come to move, connect, and truly feel like a part of something special. That's where Live Better was born!

I live an active lifestyle and love to workout, hike, kayak, snowboard and just MOVE. In the past years I have started to shift my focus away from aesthetics and towards better mental, physical and spiritual health. I believe that fitness is just a proxy for everything else in life - building physical and mental strength and self-confidence, and making us better and happier in our roles as spouses, partners, parents, employees and friends. Everything that happens inside the gym is meant to improve your overall quality of life. My passion and goal with my clients is to help them learn to feel great about themselves and create the happiest and strongest version of themselves so they can truly experience life to the fullest.

Sarah Cowley, Coach

My journey towards both a healthier body and mind began in 2012, when I entered the Exercise Science diploma program at Lethbridge College. After my diploma, I went on to achieve a Bachelor of Public Health with honours in 2017 at the University of Lethbridge. I am currently enrolled in my last year of my Bachelor of Education at the University of Lethbridge, majoring in Physical Education.

It was during my first year at the University, that I was introduced to the sport of powerlifting. I fell in love with this strength based sport because it began to shift my focus from exercising to improve the appearance of my body and control my bodyweight, to the phenomenal things my body is capable of doing! Mentally, powerlifting has provided a means of massive growth for me to gain self-confidence, self-worth, purpose, and joy. Physically, powerlifting has improved my strength, body composition, and overall physical abilities. I am now a competitive powerlifter and hold a few National records in squat and benchpress.

My coaching philosophy focuses on a growth mindset and performance based empowerment for clients. I believe that long term success and health stems from learning to love your body through realizing and achieving what it is capable of. My goal as a coach is to guide clients in building a life-long relationship with health that will be sustainable and promote both mental and physical well-being!

Angela began her fitness journey after having her 2nd child and battling anxiety and depression for majority of her life. It became very clear to her one day, that how she treats herself and her body would directly have an impact on her children and their futures.

Shortly after beginning a regular exercise routine, and noticing the very real and natural healing effects it had on her mental health Angela took a course in Exercise Theory through AFLCA. Which then lead her to obtaining her Certified Personal Training Cert with CanFitPro, and eventually a 200hr Yoga Certification with In Balance for Life Yoga.

Angela is passionate about learning, and understanding the body and how different one individual is from the next. She loves to coach clients to push themselves beyond what they have believed they are capable of, and teaching them that exercise is more than just lifting the weights and moving your body. The intention, connection with your breath and mind can be the key!

Ashley Enns, Coach

I have always lived an active lifestyle, growing up playing sports, dancing, etc. When I began the Criminal Justice Program at the college, I started lifting weights in order to pass the fitness testing. It was through this I unintentionally got down to 97lbs and soon into fitness competitions. After spending two years working, focusing on my appearance and how much I weighed, I won my pro card and was left thinking “now what?” I then found powerlifting.

It was in this sport that I found my true passion. Going into the gym every day and focusing on what my body could DO. There is truly nothing as empowering as lifting something you didn’t think you could, or pushing your body past where you thought it could go. THIS is what I want for everyone- not necessarily in powerlifting or strength training, but in realizing that you are capable of anything you put your mind to. Being “fit” is so much more than what you look like- the mental strength, investment in your health, commitment to and belief in oneself, it all has its part. I have been powerlifting for 3 years now, holding multiple national and one world record, and I can honestly say it has changed my life.

I believe that fitness and nutrition should ADD to your life, not be or take away from it. The goal should be to live YOUR best life and to have fun doing it!

Austin Phillips, Coach

My athletic journey has spanned over nearly two decades, and encompassed a variety of different sports.  I have had a passion for movement in all its forms since early adolescence, and this sense of discovery and drive to find new and challenging ways to move has helped shape me into the person I am today.

From achieving a first-degree black belt in Shotokan Karate to swimming for the University of Lethbridge and later becoming a competitive powerlifter, every sport I have participated in has allowed me to experience challenges, victories, failures, and growth.

I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology with the intention of finding a career where I could share my passion for movement and the freedom it provides with as many people as possible, and Live Better has provided me with the perfect platform to do just that!

Sport and fitness can provide us with the challenges required to grow and adapt in the face of adversity, and allow us to become cognizant of our own agency in the way our body feels, moves, and performs - and it is my objective to spread a passion and investment in movement and self-efficacy through fitness.

Paige Allert, Coach

I am passionate about encouraging others to reach their full potential in and out of the gym. My goal as a coach is to help others’ break past self-limiting beliefs while encouraging them to make meaningful change. I value authenticity, self growth, tenacity and humor. I strive to show up as as a coach who embodies those values everyday.

I have 7 years of competitive dance experience and I started Olympic Weightlifting in 2017. I immediately fell in love with lifting because it is incredibly empowering to lift heavy and defy the odds. Weightlifting is really difficult but that is what draws me to it. It forces me to find fire within to become more resilient in all aspects of my life. I often refer to fitness as a catalyst to personal growth because it helps you continue to strive for improvement get comfortable with the uncomfortable.

In my spare time I love spending time in nature by going on walks or hikes, reading (learning all the time), binging netflix, spending quality time with loved ones and of course lots of weightlifting.
